The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of working with geographic information systems (GIS) with emphasis on the use in the social sciences. Course participants will be introduced to basic terms and sources of geospatial data. Practical exercises will be used for ilustrating endless possibilities of visualization and analysis of spatial data. The course will utilize free software packages, so participants will be able to use their own laptops and continue working with the software at the end of the course. The graduate of the course should be able to successfully apply the acquired skills both in their own research and academic work, as well as in future employment.
