Learning outcomes
|
Analysis of foreign and security policies of individual EU member states (EU-27). A comparison of the national policies of the EU-27 and their relationship to the CFSP and CSDP of the EU. Examination of the EUs security and defense role in the international politics. Implications for the Czech foreign and security policy as regards the membership of the CR in the EU and NATO.
Understanding of the foreign and security policies of individual EU member states (EU-27). Ability to compare of the national policies of the EU-27 and their relationship to the CFSP and CSDP of the EU. Ability to examine the EUs security and defense role in the international politics. Understanding of the Czech foreign and security policy as regards the membership of the CR in the EU and NATO. Ability to work with foreign language academic and professional texts. Ability to critically evaluate issues related to the CFSP and CSDP of the EU.

Prerequisites
|
The EU and Members States is a one semester compulsory course for the students of the M.A. level program in Politics and European Studies. Active knowledge of English is required. The students are expected to follow regularly the developments in European politics.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam, Essay
Seminars and assigned readings are compulsory. Only one absence in the seminar is accepted. The students are required to regularly follow EU developments using the following sources: http://www.euractiv.com; http://www.euobserver.com; http://www.europa.eu.int; http://www.economist.com. The final mark reflects the partial requirements in the following way: final essay (40%), written test (40%) and seminar presentation (20%).
