One-semester course acquaints students with the functioning, interaction, and especially mutual negotiation of the key institutions of the European Union: the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of the EU. In explanatory seminars, students will gradually become familiar with the working of mentioned institutions and their negotiation strategies when trying to assert their own interests. They will acquire knowledge of the EU legislative process, and above all the principles of the so-called trialogue negotiations; the selected trialogues of the Czech presidency of the Council of the EU in 2022 will serve as examples. In the second half of semester, students will experience the mutual interaction of EU institutions, the defence of the negotiation mandate, and participation in trialogues. Model negotiations will serve to obtain practical experience from high-level diplomatic negotiations and to learn the characteristics of the specific interaction of key EU institutions.
