The aim of the course is to introduce students to the overall historical development of the European integration process in the context of European history of the period and the political development of individual European states. The issues are presented in relation to questions addressed by current research in EU historiography. Space is devoted to the ideas of European unification and the important proposals and concepts that preceded the development of concrete integration. The main focus is on the major stages of European integration, the main phases and key moments, including issues related to the various waves of EC/EU enlargement, the introduction of new policies and the emergence of new institutional and political actors. The course includes an analysis of the attitudes and ideas of political figures who have played an important role in the development of European integration, while the approaches of individual European states towards integration and the direction of these attitudes in relation to their internal political developments are also examined. The main lines of development and transformation of the institutional structure, its adaptation to the development, expansion and complexity of integration, as well as the evolution of common policies are covered. At the same time, attention is paid to the circumstances of the adoption, content and implementation of the treaty documents.
