Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce history, structure, operation and peculiarities of the Czechoslovak broadcasting section of Radio Free Europe (RFE) as an exile medium which operated in particular conditions determined by period context (Cold War) and intentions of the station's management and section members. The topic of RFE broadcasting will thus be related to broader period context. The course will include discourse analyses of broadcasts from the standpoint of communication theory, information theory, persuasion and propaganda. RFE's broadcasts will be compared to parallel broadcasts of the Czechoslovak Radio. Contemporary scholarly literature will be used as well as access to issues related to RFE broadcasts. The course will include lectures from Czech and international experts.
Basic orientation in questions of history, structure, programming and prominent personalities of Czechoslovak broadcasting section of RFE, knowledge of historical context, basics of methodology of analysis of persuasive communication
