Learning outcomes
The course aims to analyse and discuss selected problems and questions related to the tradition of Czech structuralist thought, especially the fundamental Theses of the Prague School (PS) with primary focus on the questions of language (both standardized and poetic), language culture, literature and structural model of development. The course will also consider cultural and social issues (disputes within the PS and discussions with Czech Marxists in the 1930s and 1920s) and subsequent critique of selected structural principles (teleology, immanentism, etc.) in the second half of the 20th century.
