Subtitle: Philosophy and sociology of biology between the scientific wars and the present The seminar will focus on the study of the texts of sociologists, philosophers and historiographers of biology in the period from the "scientific wars" in the 1990s to the present day. In the science wars, the shadow of postmodern anti-scientific thinking was cast on the sociology of science, the philosophy of (not only) biology was even completely programmatic. Therefore, we will try to examine the relationship between postmodernism and the sociology of scientific knowledge in detail. Through the selected texts, we will evaluate in what form the sociology of biology emerges at the turn of the century, to what extent its research agenda turns from general problems to the specifics of scientific practice, and to what extent the way of work actually begins to resemble the philosophy of biology. Finally, we will also be interested in how the philosophy and sociology of biology are currently integrated into scientific studies (Science Studies or Science and Technology Studies). The course is also intended to serve as a research platform, not only for inquisitive students, but also for a number of involved researchers from Olomouc and Prague. Professional guests representing the views of biologists (of various specializations), sociologists, philosophers and historiographers will regularly attend the seminars.
