Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to develop the student's ability to independently design and conduct scholarly research leading to the preparation of an original scholarly study. Under the guidance of a selected academic supervisor, the student will become familiar with the individual stages of the research process - from defining the topic and formulating the research problem, through critical engagement with scholarly literature, primary sources, research materials, and data, to selecting an appropriate methodology and analysing and interpreting research findings. Emphasis is placed on the ability to situate the student's own research within the context of the current state of research, formulate academically relevant research questions, critically evaluate sources, select appropriate research methods, and develop arguments based on the results of their own analysis. The course also aims to prepare the student for the systematic development of research findings into a scholarly study that meets the standards of academic writing. The course is delivered through regular individual consultations between the student and their supervisor or, where appropriate, through regular instruction in a specialised group of students.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student is able to independently design and conduct research leading to the preparation of a scholarly study. The student is able to critically engage with scholarly literature, primary sources, research materials, and data; select an appropriate methodological approach; analyse and interpret research findings; and develop a concept for a scholarly study that meets the standards of academic writing.

Successful completion of the course requires the submission of work-in-progress research, including the formulation of the research problem and objectives, an assessment of the current state of research, a description of the methodological approach, an overview of the sources, research materials, or data used, preliminary analytical findings, and a proposed structure for the scholarly study in preparation.
