Course content
sociocultural context of the fifties and sixties of the 20th century definition and theory of rock music rock and roll, Motown pop Brill Building pop rhythm and blues, blues revival Mersey Sound hard rock, progressive rock, glam rock and other selected phenomena of Anglo-American popular music

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the history of modern popular music especially of the second half of the 20th century.
The student will be competent to reflect the history of music in its entirety, he/she will be able to discuss the changes in the aesthetics of music in the twentieth century, hence to discuss the transformations of the society of the historical phase in question.
Prerequisites
A general overview of the history of music, as well as basic knowledge of the cultural history of the twentieth century is expected. Moreover, knowledge of the history of modern popular music (jazz) of the first half of the twentieth century is also expected.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

regular attendance completion of partial seminar tasks (work with professional texts) the student prepares and presents a paper on the chosen topic; in case of failure to submit and present the paper by the specified deadlines, the student will not be awarded attestation
