Course content

1. Temporal layout of the history of music. The basic literature. 2. Music in the prehistorical and ancient times. Ancient Greece and Rome. 3. The liturgical chant. 4. The para-liturgical monophony and the secular monophony. 5. The beginnings and early periods of polyphony. Notre Dame. 6. Ars Antiqua, Ars Nova, music in the Renaissance period. 7. Music in the Barock Era. Opera and Oratorio. 8. The instrumentál music in the Barock Era, concerto, J. S. Bach and G. F. Händel. 9. Music during the Classicism. Opera. 10. Sonata form and Symphony during the Classicism. 11. J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart and L. v. Beethoven. 12. The history of music in the Czech Lands. nni Pierluigi da Palestrina. 11. Development of music in Bohemia and Moravia in the 15th and 16th century.

Learning outcomes
|
The overview of European music culture and the changes of styles from the Ancient times to the beginning of Romanticism. The spesifics of music development in western and eastern Europe. The characteristics of European music mind.
Sufficient orientation in the European music history until the end of the 18th Century. An overview of literature on the particular topic. Knowledge of the main stages of development, the turning points, the most significant representatives and their works. The ability to classify a particular work based on listening or listening to an audio recording according to a given style or style tendency. The application of gained knowledge in further studies, teaching and dramaturgical activities.

|
Written exam
Participation of the lessons, the reading of the literature, 60 percent of successfull rate in the test.
