Course content
1. The Definition of Disciplines and Their History. The Characteristic of Genres of Music Criticism and Popularisation of Music. 2. The Characteristic of Main Genres (Report, Review, Gloss, Interview, Portrait, Polemic) and Samples of Texts. An analysis of Chosen Texts. 3. The Profile of a Music Critic. Expertise, Stylistic Abilities, Moral Principles. 4. Music Magazines in the Czech Republic and Abroad, Culture Sections in Daily Press. 5. Broadcasts of Music in Radio and in Television, on CD, etc. 6. A Language Aspect of Musical-critical and Journalistic Expressions. An Analysis of Texts. 7. Press Act, Freedom of Speech, Ethical Code. 8. A Graphical and Typographical Elaboration of Text. Proofreading Symbols. 9. The Principles of Speech. Writing for Radio and Television. 10. Objectivity and Subjectivity in Music Criticism and Popularisation of Music. Critical Judgement. 11. Regional Music Criticism and Popularisation. A Dilemma of a Music Critic. 12. The Most Significant Critics in Our Country and Abroad. A Sample of Chosen Texts.

Learning outcomes
The course provides the historical, theorethical and practical connections of the music criticism and popularisation. The practical journalism is necesarry part of the subject. The students prepare the texts intended for the print- and audio-visual masmadia.
- The students orientate themselves in the history and theory of music criticism and popularisation - they are able to identify genres used in speech as well as in writing, they know their characteristic means - they orientate themselves in contemporary trends of writing - they know the principles of speech - the student is able to discuss music culture with the use of basic genres of music criticism and popularisation - they can revise specialised texts stylistically as well as factually - they can write a text primarily intended for reading as well as for speech - are capable of working in editing, publishing and advertisement. - the student is able to work as a spokesperson, radio and television editor and anchorman - the student can use their abilities in the sphere of music management

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary), Seminar Work

Overview of the contents of the subject. The studying textbook Jan Vicar (see compulsory reading). General knowledge should be supplemented by reading music magazines, for example the Music Views, Harmony, Opus Musicum, Muzikus, His Voice, Fool Moon, Rock and Pop, and so on.
