The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the evolution of views on beauty and artistic creation. Using examples of treatises by leading figures in the field, the course examines shifts in the understanding of aesthetics and in the ways it has been approached theoretically. The course also explores the connections between aesthetics and the art of the time, as well as the aesthetic needs of various historical periods.
Students will become familiar with the interdisciplinary nature of aesthetics and general art theory, as well as their respective terminologies. They will learn the criteria for evaluating a work of art or other type of artistic object and will come to understand a work of art as an expression of the contemporary worldview. Students will gain training in the use of general philosophical categories. |

Mark, Seminar Work
1. Attendance (2 absences maximum) and active participation. The seminar part of the course is evaluated based on the student's knowledge of the required reading, which the student selects from a provided list of texts considered to be significant works in the history of aesthetics and art theory. 2. The exam itself assesses the student's knowledge and understanding of the topics covered in the lectures and the required reading. |
