Course content
The content of the subject is the historical part of the discipline in the first place. The attention is paid to the stratification of the popular music, its particular subspheres (folklore, traditional popular music, the jazz music circuit), with the main attention paid to the jazz music circuit. In the scope of this particular subsphere is stressed the importance of the history of jazz, but also further subspheres of the jazz music circuit (afroamerican music folklore, rock, folk, pop music, chanson, musical etc.).

Learning outcomes
The aim of this subject is to familiarise the students with the theoretical and historical problems of the sphere of popular music and its component subspheres. The main attention is devoted to the music of the jazz circuit and its particular subspheres.
The obtaining of the sure orientation in the rudiments of the jazz music circuit. The ability of the practical usage of this knowledge in the music analysis in this area.
Prerequisites
Confident knowledge of theoretical music subjects (the rudiments of music theory, harmony, music forms etc.).

Assessment methods and criteria
Mark

The elaboration and presentation of one essay thematically derived from the popular music sphere. The topic of the essay has to be consulted with the lecturer at the beginning of the session. Studying the basic and selectively also the other literature. The experiences from the both listening or the playing this kind of music will be accepted gladly.
