1) Origins of Music of the Baroque, Definition against Music of the Late Renaissance, Development of a New Style. 2) Early Phase of Music of the Baroque in Italy (Florence, Rome, etc.). 3) Claudio Monteverdi and His Legacy, Venice and Naples Opera, Definition against the Roman School. 4) Opera and Ballet in France. 5) French Instrumental Music. 6) Top Forms of Instrumental Music of the Baroque. 7) Spiritual Work in Italy and France. 8) Specifics of English Music of the Baroque. 9) The Development in German Speaking Countries in the 17th Century, Specifics of German Music Culture and Its Blending with the Concertante Principle. 10) Synthesis of the Peak of the Baroque - G. F. Handel, J. S. Bach, J. D. Zelenka. 11) Music of the Baroque in Czech Lands. 12) Issues of So-called Gallant Style and Stylistic Changes around the Half of the 18th Century.

Learning outcomes
|
The mission of the lecture is to introduce to students the stylistic and developmental trends in European music in the 17th and 18 century. The starting point is the religious and ethnic division of Europe and its impact on the emergence of new stylish and different initiatives taken in the different parts of Europe.
Obtaining of the reliable orientation in the historic, stylish, functional, aesthetic and theoretical issues of music 17th and 18 century. Acquired skills: The student is able to: - specify the character of developmental phases of music of the Baroque in key places of Europe, - describe the specifics of composition techniques of given schools, composers, etc., verbally or with the use of an analytical description of a sound sample. Acquired qualifications: The student is able to: - use theoretical solutions of the given discipline and acquired knowledge and skills when solving complex tasks of a synthetic character in the framework historiographic sphere of musical science, - apply acquired knowledge within the practical sphere of music life, including music popularisation and criticism.
