Course content |
We will deal with translations and analyses of ancient Greek Classical texts of medium difficulty from authors like Homer, Herodotus, Xenophon, Aristophanes, Plato, etc. The texts will be adapted to the students' level of Greek.

The aim of this course is to consolidate and advance the students' knowledge of Greek morphology and syntax in preparation for further work on ancient Greek texts in the subsequent semesters. During the semester, through translations of various texts the students will have the opportunity to improve their language skills and also to familiarize themselves with key authors in the history of ancient Greek literature.
Upon the successful completion of the course they will be able: 1. To acquire further knowledge of all aspects of ancient Greek grammar: phonology, morphology and syntax. 2. To translate and interpret selected Greek texts of medium difficulty. 3. Read and understand ancient Greek prose works from the 5th century BCE to the 1st century CE 4. Demonstrate a knowledge of inflections, grammatical constructions, and vocabulary items found on the average page of a classical literary text. 5. Demonstrate a familiarity with the styles of the selected authors in prose. |

Previous knowledge of Ancient Greek language is necessary: the course Greek I (A, B).
