CONTENTS 1. Introduction: cultural history, gender history, history of everyday life - definition of basic concepts and terms 2. Time as a basic category of medieval culture 3. Space as a structure of medieval thought 4. Contemporary models of social organization in accordance with and in conflict with the actual structure of medieval society 5. Body and soul in medieval culture 6. Body and perception of the body, beauty and ugliness 7. Clothing and is meaning in symbolic communication in the Middle Ages 8. Categories of masculinity and femininity 9. Stages of human life: childhood, youth, maturity and old age 10. Comicality and seriousness

Learning outcomes |
Students will have the opportunity to get acquainted with topics that are essential for understanding the functioning of medieval society as a whole and the differences of individual social environments. Attention is focused on the basic categories of medieval culture, such as time, space, perception / experience of the body and the various stages of life, up to the significance of contemporary religious and spiritual life.
Students are familiar with the basic topics and concepts related to the content of the seminar (see the overview of topics). They understand and are able to describe the main specifics of this period and their implications for social organization and everyday life. They are familiar with the relevant secondary literature. |

Student performance, Written exam
Active participation in lessons, max. 2 unexcused absences. Reading and analysis of the text for each seminar. Passing the final test. |
