Course content
The course of modern latin paleography follows the previous semestr and is focused on a development of a script not only in czech lands, but also in european context from the last quarter of the 18th century to the second half of the 20th century. Lectures focus on both neogothic and humanist scripts and describe how both styles influenced each other and how those scripts changed in particular countries (with a special focus on czech lands). Special attention is paid to printed fonts, which were related to handwritten scripts, but are different in a genesis, typology and classification. PZ

Learning outcomes
The aim of lectures in this course is to introduce students to the main trends of a development of a latin script in the last quarter of the 18th century, entire 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. Lectures continue with the issue from the previous semestr. Main topics are: a genesis of german neogothic script, which was specified for both german and czech texts; an implementation of developed humanistic script in czech lands, which replaced neogothic script in czech texts in the second half of the 19th century. Students will also get basic overview of historical fonts of printed texts. They will also learn how to classify described types of modern latin scripts. Students in seminars will also learn how to read these scripts with an aid of historical documents and old scribe schoolbooks. The course is finished with a written test and an oral exam. PZ
Students are able to read the historical scripts of the Latin area. PZ
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the Latin paleography of the previous eras is expected. PZ

Oral exam, Student performance

Active participation in lessons. Regular preparation for seminars, which means to make transliteration of specified texts. It is necessary to make a transliteration of specified texts to receive credits. The exam will have oral form and will be based on reccomended literature, on lectures and on reproductions of paleographical texts, which students will receive during lessons. PZ
