Although historical Ibero-Americanism belongs to the youngest fields of area studies, it can provide excellent prerequisites and quality of publications in last forty years. The present Ibero-Americanism/ Latin-Americanism in Czech lands (the Czech Republic) is closely connected with work and heritage of J. Polišenský (Charles University, Prague) and his school. It means that Czech Ibero-Americanism successfully deals with research of early modern history, 19th or 20th century history or the beginning of the 21st century. Thanks to rich archival sources (17th, 18th century), the rich interest of Danube monarchy in Latin America in the 19th century, the interest of Czechoslovakia in the Latin-American world after 1918, it is possible to prove the continuity that corresponds with following research publications. For the 17th and 18th century, the presence of the Czech province and the Society of Jesus in the Latin-American world is significant, for the 19th century ? the travelling interest, for the 19th and 20th century ? the political, business and cultural interest. Czech historians have entered into discussions about Latin-American history and enrich the history with the knowledge of Central European funds as well as a selection of topics that are able to compete and supplement foreign research. An outstanding topic is a research of the past and present of Czechs (emigration, exile) in Latin America. HF
