Learning outcomes
The course will focus on the political, social, and cultural development of the Habsburg Monarchy from 1657 to 1740, during the reigns of Leopold I (1657-1705) and his sons Joseph I (1705-1711) and Charles VI (1711-1740). This period of over eighty years left significant marks on the history of Central Europefrom the expulsion of the Ottomans and pacification of Hungary, through further strengthening of the centralized state in the hereditary lands, to a profound transformation of religious life, social milieu, and the landscape in the spirit of Baroque culture.
