Course content
The aim of this seminar is to introduce some of the basic chapters from economic and social history of the "long" 19th century. 1) An introductory lesson 2) From serfdom to citizenship (the bounds of the law, changes in the structures of the society, mobility) 3) Nobility I (the structure of nobility in the monarchy, explanation of basic terms, nobility´s position and role in the society) 4) Nobility II (the acquisition of a noble status during the "long" 19th century - prerequisites and conditions) 5) Industrial society - modernization, proto-industrialization, industrial revolution (explanation of basic terms) 6) The entrepreneurs as a subject of historical research (introduction of the entrepreneurs as a specific social group and their role in the society) 7) Everyday life I (hygiene, health care, housing, ) 8) Everyday life II ( the birth of free time, festivities, sports, ) 9) Secularization of the society (religion and society, Church and state) 10) Optional topic 11) Credit test Literature: LENDEROVÁ, Milena - JIRÁNEK, Tomáš - MACKOVÁ, Marie: Z dějin české každodennosti. Learning outcomes
The course concentrates on the analysis of the main historical problems, literature and sources.
Students will gain knowledge of selected topics of this period and they will be also familiar with the literature related to this course.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of history of the 19th century.

Student performance, Written exam

Active participation in the seminars, study of the assigned texts and passing the credit test.
