The optional course of the Contemporary Latin American will be focused mainly of some of the important patterns regarding this part of the world - history, economy, social structures and international relations. Also, every important state or region will be presented in comparison to others. Emphasis will also be placed on the current situation, where, thanks to Donald Trump's policies, many states in this region are changing their policies (the emergence of "little Trumps" in Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, etc.), or are being forced to do so (Cuba, Venezuela).
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to use analysis to identify and evaluate the processes of political evolution and transformation of the socioeconomic structures that are characteristic for the region of Latin America and the Caribbean. Students should be able to analyze local problems not as a series of facts, instead they should be able to interpret every fact in a broader and wider context of the globalized world of today. Students will also learn how to work individually and excursive thinking. Just like according to Rene Descartes: Cogito ergo sum. |

The purpose of this course is to present historical, social and economic perspective, introducing students to the analysis of the most important patterns of the Region of Latin America and the Caribbean. No previous knowledge required as one of the purposes is also to widen and broaden the student's knowledge from high school or college. The focus will be mainly on the wider context of Latin America and not so much on facts.

Oral exam
The course concludes with an exam in the form of a written essay. Students will present three titles they have read about Latin America during the semester and, based on these, will be given a topic to discuss in approximately 3 standard pages. |
