Course content
The lecture will focuse on definition of the term confessionalisation, on its content, analysis of religious history writing in the 19th century (Leopold von Ranke) and its changes in the first half of the 20th century (Hubert Jedin, Ernst Walter Zeeden). It will discuss formulation of the concept in amin historical studies in 70´s and 80´s (Wolfgang Reinhard, Heinz Schilling), its princips, sources and use. Attention will be than focused on the critique of the concept in 90´s which was connected with development of microhistory and cultural history (Stefan Ehrenpreis, Marc Foster, Thomas Kaufmann). It will focuse also on possible future use of the concept while concentrating mainly on Czech historiography.

Learning outcomes
Lecture Confessionalisation sources, meaning, critique focuses on one of the most influential historiographical concepts of European early modern history the concept of confessionalisation. Students will be introduced to the sources of the concept, its development and use, following critique and re-examination of the concept as well as to its future heading and possible future use, mainly in context of the lands of Bohemian crown. The informational background of the lecture will be provided by a serie of texts and main historical works dealing with the topic. These texts will be analysed by taecher and students during the lecture.
Student´s knowledge of early mdoern history and historiography will be deepened. Students will improve their abilities to work with sources and literature, learn to analyse them and use them properly in historical work. Students will be introduced to the most recent trends in historiography of early modern period.
