Course content
Examples of the digitalisation of old prints and microfilming of 19th century journals. Work with old maps, their description and analysis. The most significant maps of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia and the transformation of landscape. Collector´s curiosities. Important information possibilities for old map studies. Work with legal prints of the 16th-18th century (Codex Ferdinandeo, Codex Josephini, Codex Theresianus etc.), their analalysis and setting into the historical context, important lawyers of the 17th-18th century (e.g. J. J. Weingarten), significant legal cases (e.g. Abeles´proces), a judicial structure with the respect to the importance of the appeal court. HF

Learning outcomes
Students will be acquainted with techniques of reformating historically worthful documents, practical techniques used for digitalisation of old prints. The course will be also aimed at gaining the basic knowledge of history of cartography and a study of old maps, preferably Czech lands. It will show basic characteristics especially on concrete examples from the funds of the Research Library in Olomouc. Another aspect of the course will be the familiarization and work with 16th-18th century prints stored in this library. Students will also get knowledge of the development of the Czech law since early modern period to Joseph´s reforms on practical examples of codes, legal books, textbooks, etc. This course is established under the terms of the project Innovation of Historical Sciences Studies at Palacký University, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0025.
