1. Introduction to archaeology, archaeological site, burial rites, definition of the term 'archaeometry' 2. Archaeobotany, Archaeozoology, Geology, Anthropology, Palaeontology 3. The chemical basis of certain technological processes throughout history 4. Field sampling and subsequent sample preparation/storage 5. Phosphate analysis and metal analysis 6. Analysis of organic residues 1 - Electrochemical methods 7. Analysis of organic residues 2 - Spectral methods 8. Analysis of organic residues 3 - Separation methods 9. Stable isotope analysis for anthropology and archaeology 10. Statistical analysis of measured data - an introduction to R software 11. Statistical analysis of measured data - a case study 12. Field trip to the conservation workshop at the Regional Museum in Olomouc

Learning outcomes
|
The course aims to introduce students to archaeometry, that is, the application of analytical chemistry to the analysis of archaeological and historical artefacts.
To define and describe the fundamentals of archaeometry and the potential applications of analytical chemistry in the analysis of archaeological/historical artefacts. To describe the procedure for taking samples from archaeological/historical artefacts. To evaluate the measured data using the statistical software R.

Prerequisites
|
A knowledge of the fundamentals of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and instrumental methods.

|
Oral exam
The student must take an oral examination.
