Course content
|
Lectures: 1. - 3. Introduction to basic issues of the field of studies (methods, primary literature, perization, geographical and natural frame). Life of a human in the Middle Ages based on the archaeological sources: 4. Farmers in the 6. to 12. cent. 5. Farmers in the 13. to 16. cent. 6. Artisans. 7. The miners and ironworkers. 8. - 7. Builders and residents of fortified settlements. 9. Residents of cities. 10. Parsons, teachers and pupils. 11. Noblemans, builders of castles, sovereigns. 12. Soldiers. 13. Moravian brothers, the Jews. Seminars: Discussed special issue, extending topics of lectures, focusing mainly on issues of methodology of the scientific field, the specifics of field research and cooperation with other social sciences. The seminars will be held by the form of presentations of given topics from the subject, their analysis, followed by discussion, on which will be given a great emphasis.

Learning outcomes
|
The purpose of the course is to introduce the students to the specifity of the archeological research of the localities of slavic and medieval origin. Introduction to the basic issues of archeology, basic European literature, magazines, centers of research and research workers. Definition of the field of study, methods. History of the discipline and its origines, division of archeology. Classes include the oral presentations of set topics, their analysis and following discussion which is the crucial element of the course.
Students acquire the knowledge of the basic methods of research of these localities and their specificity.
