Course content |
Lectures: 1-3rd Basic of human Osteology (A) Introduction, Why do we study human skeleton? Why is important knowledge of human remains anatomy in Anthropology? Differences of neccesity of Anthropology and classical Medical Anatomy, Basic axes and planes, anatomical terminology, Types of human skeleton bones. (B) Cranial, development of sutures, anatomical description of each bone in braincase, anatomical description of cranial faces part. (C) Skeletal axis, spine as whole, description of each vertebrae, ribe, strernum and cross-bone, Skeleton of upper limb: collarbone, shoulder blade, humerus, ulna, radius, Carpal and metacarpal bones and phalanges and its anatomy nat its distinction between each other. Skeleton of the lower limbs: pelvic bones, femur, fibula and tibia, metatarsal bones, metatarsal and phalanges of legs, its anatomy and distinction from each other. 4-8th Introduction to anthropological work (A) Funerals: primary, secondary and terciary, Extraction and transport, Sampling. (B) Treating of skeletal material in the laboratory, preparation and cleaning and preservation, reconstruction. (C) Determination of sex according to skeleton. (D) Determination of age. (E) Recostruction of statue. 9 -13th Other possibilities of Anthropology (A) Reconstruction of appearance according to skull. (B) Study of cremation burials. (C) Basis of Dental Anthropology, Palaeopathology, Osteometry. (D) Descriptive characteristics of the skeleton. (E) Chemic-analytical and molecular biological methods in Anthropology. Seminars 1-13th Examples of osteological material and work with it - determination and description.

Learning outcomes |
Students are familiar with basics of physical Anthropology and its using in Archaeology and in study of human history. Practical teaching contains determination and description of bones.
Orientation in anthropology and its use in archaeological research. Practical knowledge of human bone description. |

Basic overview in human biology (knowledge from primary and high school).
