Course content
1. La Téne period: a historical overview (written sources, homeland of the Celts, ethnogenesis of the Celts, Celtic languages, Celtic tribes, the Celtic expansion), the economy and culture of the Celts (agriculture, crafts, literature, oppida, Celtic coinage); Celtic society, art and religion; La Téne period in Moravia (chronology, burial grounds, settlements, votive depots, material culture); Púchov culture, Przeworski culture, the end of the Celtic settlement; Celtic archeology in the Olomouc region (the importance of new discoveries from Němčice na Hané, oppidum in Staré Hradisko). 2. Roman Period: a historical overview (written sources, the Roman Empire and the Limes Romanus, the origins of Germanic nations, Germanic tribes and their division); political history of Central Europe (Marobuds Empire, the Kingdom of Vannius, Markomanni wars, the crisis of the Roman Empire and its demise), the main archaeological and cultural groups, economy and culture of the Germans, society, art and religion of Germans; Roman period in Moravia (chronology, burial lands, settlements, material culture, Roman imports); intervention of the Roman legions north from the Danube River (Musov - Burgstall and Musov-Neurissen, Roman field camps), Roman and Germanic archaeological sites and findings in the Olomouc region, the clash between Danube and Elbe Valley cultural circle in Haná region. 3. Migration period: a historical overview (written sources, overview of major tribes, the most important events); archeology of Migration Period in Europe and the Czech Republic (intermediate level D1, group Přešťovice-Friedenhain, Vinařice group, Danubian cultural circuit, Huns, Heruli tribe, Thuringi tribe, Lombards, late grade of the the Migration Period and ethnical changes), new perspectives on the end of the Germanic settlement and the beginnings of Slavic settlement in our country; Migration Period in Moravia (chronology, burial rites, settlements, material culture) ; the significance of the Germanic findings from Migration Period from Olomouc region. Learning outcomes
To get students acquainted with the cultures of La Téne periodage, Roman age and the Migration period. AD
Student gets an overview of the particular cultures of the Iron Age and the tribes and culture of people of the Migration period in our region as well as about their production and their way of life. AD
Prerequisites
The basic knowledge of historical context of relevant period. AD
