1. Introduction: Why plants? The basic botanical and ecological terms, links of plants on the environment, indication value + histoty of utilization of plants in archeology 2. Antrakology and xylotomy - sampling and separation of wood and coals, determination, reconstruction of forest composition and other interpretations; dendrochronology - the principle of methods, sampling, production and editing of curves, dendrochronology and radiocarbon dating, dendroekology 3. Charred plant macro-remains - sampling, methods of separation, identification, interpretation 4. Plant macro-remains in a humid environment and differently preserved - sampling and storage, possible contamination, methods of separation, identification, interpretation 5. Palynology, diatomaceous a fytolithic analysis ? sampling, methods of separation, identification, interpretation

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to provide to students basic information about usage of the preserved remains of plants and similar organisms in archaeology. The the main (sub)archeobotanical disciplines will be introduced together with their requirements, capabilities and limitations. Emphasis will be placed in the correct sampling, storaging possiblilities of processing and their limits. The second part of the course will provide to students with basic information about the diversity of biotops of Czech Republic and plants as their main components with an emphasis on interaction with human. The final part, the main cultural plants of the Old World and the development of their cultivation will be presented. AD
Students will acquire basic overview about the work of archaeobotanicion, during archaeological research the student will be able to take samples for each type of archaeobotanical analyzes. Student will learn basics of sorting and determining of archeobotanical materials. AD
