Course content
The literature seminars - like the literature lectures - focus either on individual time periods/epochs in German literature, or they may be defined as an overview of the works by a single writer, several related writers, or as a developmental exploration of a specific genre, one or several motifs and themes, or types of figures of speech etc. However, the seminars - unlike lectures - emphasize mainly practical work with primary and reference texts and students' creative work.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Work with Text (with Book, Textbook)
Learning outcomes
This seminar will discuss texts of German literature after 1945 (until the present). The focus will primarily be on prose texts (short stories and radio plays). In one session, we will also delve into poetry after 1945 using selected examples. Additionally, we will discuss the adaptation of a literary work into a film. You will receive the exact list of texts at the first meeting. All materials will be available on Moodle before the start of the semester.
Students will gain insight into literature and literary criticism in selected periods as well as knowledge on topics dealt with in German language literature. A special emphasis is laid on the knowledge of the historical and cultural-historical context. The resulting competence also consists in an independent interpretation of a literary text and its examination in the literary historical as well as general historical, aesthetical, sociological context and in a comparative relation to the literature of the student's mother tongue/or the second subject.
Prerequisites
The seminar is intended for all students of the Palacký University.
