The core focus of the seminar is the semiotics of culture, i.e. the semiotic foundations of culture. The aim of the seminar is to introduce the fundamentals of theoretical semiotics, to illustrate selected issues in descriptive and contrastive semiotics using examples (focusing in particular on the description of gestures and visual signs), and to highlight the potential of applied semiotics.
The seminars aim at expanding students' knowledge of current topics in contemporary modern semiotics. Students will become acquainted with reference literature concerning individual partial topics.
