Learning outcomes
|
Professional jargons have developed as a consequence of division of labour in the society and as a consequence of further specialisation in individual subject fields. They belong to subject-bound special languages from the point of view of sociolinguistics. However, we can also classify them as functiolects or sociolects. The lecture mediates basis information about the phenomenon of professional jargon(s). The students gain basic knowledge about horizontal and vertical division of professional jargons; the historical development of this phenomenon both in German speaking regions and in Czech Lands will be explained as well. Various text types of professional jargons will be discussed in detail (according to Gläser, Göpferich, Möhn/Pelka and others). The characteristics of professional jargon text types from the linguistic point of view, especially from the morphological, morphosyntactic and lexical one will be an important theoretical part of the lecture. Students will be provided with information about language and text means which are typical of concrete professional jargon text types. The development of terminology will be outlined and demonstrated on concrete examples. Lexicography in the field of professional jargons will be dealt with as well. Students will be able to become acquainted with existing terminology glossaries which can be useful in their professional life.
Learners will acquire basic information about the professional language as a sociolinguistic variety. They will learn the criteria for its possible classification, be informed about the historical development of professional German in selected fields and get to know some types of texts characterised by the occurrence of professional expressions. They will also be presented with a description of technical language at the morphological, syntactic, lexical and textual levels and will be given basic information on the existence of technical dictionaries.
