This lecture provides an overview of German phraseology and focuses on the following topics: 1. Definition of a phraseological unit and its characteristic features (polylexicality, fixedness, idiomaticity) 2-3. Classification of phraseological units (basic and special classes) 4. Connotations of phraseological units 5. Paradigmatic semantic relationships in phraseology (synonymy, antonymy, phraseological series, phraseological subject groups, phraseological fields) 6. Phraseography 7. Contrastive phraseology and the translation of phraseological units 8. The use of phraseological units in text: text-forming functions, modification of phraseological units 9. Types of phraseological units and their stylistic functions in various text types 10. An overview of the development of phraseology

Students will gain an overview of German phraseology and the basic types of German phraseological units, and will acquire practical knowledge of approximately 200 phraseological units.

Prerequisites
|
The course is intended for students enrolled in the programmes in German Philology and Translation and Interpreting Studies. Proficiency in the German language is required.

Mark, Oral exam
The series of lectures will be completed with an oral exam.
