Course content
|
For centuries, German-language theater has shaped traditions whose influence can still be felt todayeven in countries and regions where German, as a result of the political upheavals of the 20th century, has all but disappeared as either a majority or minority language. A partial reconstruction of these theatrical traditions and an examination of their common features and differences serve as the starting point for this seminar, which focuses primarily on the tradition of German-language theater in Olomouc. |
Since the dawn of professional German-language theatre, performances have also been staged outside the present-day borders of Germany, Austria and Switzerland - initially as travelling productions, and later also on institutionalised stages, which had a significant impact on the cultural life of the respective regions. As a medium of cultural exchange, professional theatre established traditions whose effects can still be felt today. The aim of the seminar is to reconstruct this tradition, using the example of the German-language theatre tradition in Olomouc, among others.
