Course content
Within the framework of the module, students will be required to choose seminars in order to achieve the minimum amount of 5 ETCS at the end. The aim of the module is to strengthen competence and skills, which make it easier for the graduates to find a job on the job market. In the first phase, students reflect on what they have learned at university and which kind of knowledge has been acquired in a specific field (German Studies) during the studies, aiming to achieve knowledge and skills from the job market. In the following project phase, students organize a specifically performable (financed) project, which should correspond with their interests and skills. The workshop ends with extensive reflection on the process and results. Structure Weeks 1-3: reflection, conceptual work, preparation Weeks 4 - 12: project execution Week 13: final evaluation

Learning outcomes
'Work Experience' represents an optional part of the 'employability-module', which has been implemented as part of the output of the international Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships Project https://www.talcme.uni-mainz.de/.
Supported skills: focus on language and communication provision of socio-economic knowledge reflection of the gained knowledge networking individual advisory and support
Prerequisites
Ability and willingness to independently identify a suitable form of practical engagement. The department offers the following opportunities to fulfill this requirement: promoting the German language at secondary schools, providing language tutoring in the area of morphology, assisting with the organization of departmental events, such as conferences, workshops, and similar activities. In the 2026/27 academic year, the department will host the international DefenTransNum project workshop (19-23 October 2026), for which student assistants will be needed to support the organization. As the range of opportunities varies from year to year, students are required to discuss and coordinate their chosen activity with the module coordinator, K. Solomon
