Course content
|
The aim of the lecture is to familiarise students with both the fundamental political, social and economic processes and the ideological structures and forms of knowledge that have shaped this century. The focus will be primarily on German history, which will serve as a starting point for explaining global phenomena and processes. Lecture topics: The French Revolution and its influence on Germany; Liberalism, conservatism, socialism, anarchism - their origins and development; nationalism - a product of the 19th century?; demographic changes; new forms of knowledge and knowledge transfer; new media; imperialism, racism, German colonies; religiosity, secularisation; emancipation in the world of labor

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the lecture is to familiarise students with the most significant events and trends in German history during the 'long' 19th century, i.e. from the French Revolution to the outbreak of the First World War. The lecture will not focus solely on political and social history, but also on changes in attitudes and everyday life. Lecture topics: The French Revolution and its influence on Germany; Liberalism, conservatism, socialism, anarchism - their origins and development; nationalism - a product of the 19th century?; demographic changes; new forms of knowledge and knowledge transfer; new media; imperialism, racism, German colonies; religiosity, secularisation; emancipation in the world of labor
Knowledge of the key events and trends in German history during the 'long' 19th century, i.e. 1789-1914 Placing these events and trends within a European context. An overview of the most significant changes in society, the economy and science during this period.

Knowledge of German at least at B1 level.
