Course content
|
With respect to the fact that older developmental stages of German are only accessible through written sources, the main focus will be on the methodology and analysis of sources at the syntactic level. In the area of methodology, two kinds of texts will be discussed from the point of view of syntax: Old High German texts translated from Latin and Middle High German poetic texts. The following syntactic phenomena will be treated in detail: 1. Kasussyntax (Genitiv) 2. Kongruenzphänomene 3. Periphrastische Verbformen 4. Die Entwicklung der Verbstellung 5. Die Negation

The doctoral student will gain information about the basic problems of methodology and interpretation of German historical texts at the syntactic level.
the doctoral student will attempt to analyse a text in Early New High German at the syntactic level

Prerequisites
|
active knowledge of German language at the C2 level (the course is held in German), knowledge of basic terminology from the field of linguistics and knowledge of basic context of the development of German language
