Course content
The course will concentrate on following topics: - the presentation of onformations in different types of dictionaries: micro- and macrostructures, definition of the term "lemma". Klassification of the exemples in dictionaries and their function. The problem of polysemy. Typology of dictionaries. - History of Lexikography I: the beginnings of the lexicographical production in German countries. The transition from Latin dictionaries to German lexicography. Lexicography in the Baroque period. - History of Lexikography II: Dictionaries in the epoch of Enlightenment, dictionaries in the period of Romantic and their specifics, lexicographical production in the 18th and 19th century, the concept of the dictionary as a national monument: Grimm´sches Wörterbuch. - History of Lexikography III: Dictionary as a medium of different ideological concepts. - Dictionaries as witnesses of the dialectal variability. - The reflection of political facts in different types of dictionaries.

Learning outcomes
The main aim of the course is to inform the students about the history of the linguistic discipline "Lexikography" and about the different approaches in this linguistic field. The course will provide the students with following knowledges: 1) They will have insight into the historical development of Lexicography in German countries. 2) They will be well versed in the lexicographical micro- and macrostructures. 3) They will be well informed about the printed and electronic lexicographical sources (German-Czech, Czech-German)
The students gain insight into the different approaches in the field of Cognitive Linguistics. They will be knowledgeable in following fields: - meta-lexicography, boundaries between dictionary, encyclopedia, compendium etc. - the presentation of onformations in different types of dictionaries: micro- and macrostructures, definition of the term "lemma". Klassification of the exemples in dictionaries and their function. The problem of polysemy. Prerequisites
The course is intended for students of German Studies - Doctoral study program.
