Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to methodologically expand research on the basis of an approved research topic to include contemporary theoretical and conceptual developments in the historical sciences. The student compiles the theoretical and synthetic literature into dissertation chapters and submits these to the advisor and dissertation committee members on a regular basis. The student completes the course in the 4th semester of study according to his/her specialization. The main objective is to explain systematically and clearly the relevance of the topic to the wider theoretical debate in the historical sciences, so that the student can engage in the global academic debate. In regular consultation with the supervisor and the dissertation committee, the student incorporates the discussion of these works into his/her dissertation. A key part of this is a detailed analysis of the methodology of these works so that the student is able to evaluate critically how the authors reach their conclusions and on the basis of what findings, data, or sources.
