In this reading group course (KDV/93RG), PhD students will be introduced to the basic notions in syntax and semantics (e.g., part-of-speech, syntactic categories, linear order and hierarchical structures, semantical roles, sense and reference, ambiguity, etc.), and they will learn how to prepare teaching materials to cover these basic notions using data from Asian languages. Students of this course could work as tutors for the course 'Introduction to Linguistics: Syntax and Semantics' subsequently. This course is suitable for PhD students who work within the field of linguistics.
