Course content
The course will be focused on the most attractive themes from the area of Czech theatre in the second half of the 20th century: periodization of theatrical development, line of the satirical theatre, changes in dramaturgy and playwright, changes in the structure of professional theatre, non-traditional theatre line and its representatives, small theatres of the 60s, author, club and studio theatres of the 70s and 80s, new trends in the 90s, new generation of playwrights and directors, wave of alternative theatre.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to introduce the present histographical approach to the evolutionary tendencies and style transformations of the Czech theatre in the second half of the 20th century. In the thematically specified chapters the teacher will outline the dramaturgic line, the style of the plays and the actors, introduce the works of the selected theatres and important directorial personalities in the line of the traditional (repertoire) theatre as well as the line of the non-traditional activities (small, authorial and studio theatres). The emphasis will be placed on the observation of the continuity of the style transformations that influenced the present theatre structure and its diversification.
Student will acquire complex overview of Czech theatre functions and forms in the different periods of the social evolution till the end of the 20th century. Student will be able to connect the acquired knowledge to the general history of theatre.
