1. Theatre meta-theory: the subject of theatre theory and position of theatre theory in theatre studies context; methods and contemporary tendencies of theatre theory 2. Theatre in non-artistic context I: theatrality, theatre and performance, communication and interaction 3. Theatre in non-artistic context II: theatre as anthropological, sociological, psychological and culturological phenomenon 4. Theatre as specific art-form: fundamental aesthetics features of theatre and position of the theatre in context of other art-forms 5. Theatre typology: typological criterions and particularity of theatre forms and species 6. The staging theories: process of creation of the performance, characterisation of different components of the performance and its structure; performance analysis 7. Specificity of theatre text: types and features of theatre text 8. Creative disciplines of theatre art: dramatic arts, direction, dramaturgy, stage design, choreography, stage music; the different elements cooperation 9. Outstanding personages of Czech theatre theory I: O. Zich, J. Mukařovský 10. Outstanding personages of Czech theatre theory II: J. Honzl, P. Bogatyrev, J. Veltruský etc. 11. Outstanding personages of Czech theatre theory III: I. Osolsobě, J. Císař, J. Vostrý etc. 12. Crucial terms of theatre theory in the perspective of different theories 13. Conclusion

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the lecture is to show the basic concepts and theoretical approaches in the field of dramatic arts. Special emphasis will be placed on the theory of drama as a specific area of research between theatrical and literary science. The course will offer all important aspects of the dramatic play gradually and give a number of practical examples of using terminology of the drama theory.
Student will be able to characterize main approaches of theatre theory.

Prerequisites
|
Basic knowledge of the literary theories (at least at basic ?secondary-school? level) and terms known from the course focused on the introduction to theatre studies. Completed course: Introduction to theatre studies

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Mark, Oral exam
Pass the final exam ? to prove the knowledge of the themes explaned during the lectures and the knowledge of basic literature.
