Course content
|
Topic: HaDivadlo in the context of the Czech studio theatres 1.-2. Introduction. 3.-4. Genesis of individual companies, their initial profiles and personalities 5.-6. The genesis of HaDivadlo in territorial, theatrical and political contexts 7.-8. First seasons, semi-professional aspects of production and dramaturgical strategies 9.-10. Formation of production poetics in professional conditions 11.-12 Research focus of the seminar on selected thematic areas (students choose individual topics) - independent work with archival materials, contemporary documents, analysis of critical reflection, tracing the development in individual decades up to the present Examples of topics: The Young Spectator's Club in Prostějov since 1974, dramaturgical and staging changes depending on the space, set designers and designers, the relationship between HaDivadlo and the Centre for Experimental Theatre (CED), personnel changes and poetics, the work of individual personalities, transformation after 1989, reflection on the educational activities of HaDivadlo, etc.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to use examples of the development of theatre culture in the Czech lands after 1945 to show how theatre interacts with the social and cultural movements of the time and how it co-creates the social milieu at a particular time and place.
Students will gain a detailed insight into the tendencies of Czech post-war theatre using HaDivadlo as an example. They will acquire the skills of independent historiographical research.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance, Seminar Work
Students will read professional texts in Czech and discuss the topics and literature discussed in class. The course ends with a presentation of the student's own research.
