Course content
The topics of the heuristic exercise are specified at the beginning of each semester and relate to the following three areas: Building the digital audiovisual collection of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies Processing the department's written collections and archival materials related to theatre in Moravia Creating a "bank of artefacts" of Olomouc theatre Additional topics may be chosen by students, where appropriate in consultation with the instructor. Archival documentation work involving video recordings, newspapers, and magazines: describing recordings of theatre performances and journalistic programmes focused on theatre, as well as cataloguing and organizing periodicals. Database project of actors and directors: heuristic collection of information related to individual theatrical events. Cataloguing and description of collection items: organizing and registering newly acquired collection objects. Documentation of source materials: digitization of documents and sources (written, audio, and audiovisual).

Learning outcomes
The aim is to get acquainted with the methods of data retrieval and processing and the documentation of art and culture in general. It is a practical exercise with archival materials and processes of archiving and documentation of theatre.
Students are oriented in the data collection mechanisms, institutions, databases and other sources. Students are able to evaluate the significance of each particular source for the selected topic, consider the theoretical / methodological basis of individual items. Students can classify derived materials and organize them into a coherent output (eg, in the form of heuristic folder). Students are familiar with the mechanisms of collecting data, archives and other relevant professional institutions, information databases and electronic resources. They are able to work with basic sources.
