Course content
The seminar will be focused on following authors, texts and subjects: Mastičkář (dramatic fragments), Mastičkář as an object of scientific research; Pavel Kyrmezer: Komedie nová o vdově; Jan Amos Komenský: Diogenes cynicus redivivus; Semilská hra vánoční; Komedie o Františce a Honzíkovi; Baroque folk theatre poetics and its overlaps to contemporary theatre; Jan Nepomuk Štěpánek: Berounské koláče; Austrian magic plays and fairy stories (Emanuel Schikaneder: Kouzelná flétna; Josef Kajetán Tyl: Strakonický dudák aj.); Mrštíkové: Maryša.

Learning outcomes
The subject of the course is Czech drama from 14th until the end of the 19th century. The aim is to find the way to make old drama accessible. This kind of drama differs from contemporary dramatic works. In the seminars the students will use the knowledge acquired in lectures. The student will try to describe old way of staging, they will work with literature and try to interpret the text from the dramaturgic point of view ? in connection to contemporary theatre.
The students will acquire the ways and possibilities of old Czech drama analysis. They will learn how to work with dramatic text as a source of understanding to at that time staging practice. They also increase their own perceptiveness to contemporary dramaturgic interpretation of classical dramatic works.
Prerequisites
This course can attend the students who attend or already have finished the lectures focused on the Czech theatre before the end of 19th century.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Seminar Work

The students have to attend at least 75% of the seminars. Every student will have to present seminar work and to discuss the relevant topics.
