Learning outcomes
In the seminar a collaborative translating method will be used to translate Hecuba (2015), a play by one of Ireland's best known contemporary playwrights, Marina Carr. The ideal outcome of the seminar is a text that can be offered to the Dilia agency for publication at its website, thus making the play part of the Czech cultural and theatrical context in particular.
At the end of this course the student will be able to: - profess a grasp of a complex dramaturgical thinking about a dramatic text with regard to its cultural transposition (as a linguistic or intermedial translation); - interpret and apply the concepts of intercultural translation and intermedial translation; - describe the Irish example of the reception of ancient drama in modern culture.
Prerequisites
Ability to read a dramatic text in English. Knowledge of Czech; willingness to explore the language of drama and venture into the prolonged and sometimes painful process of searching the adequate expressions of the original meanings.
