Course content
Course traces the puppet theatre as a specific form of art from its beginning to the contemporary state. Topics: From the ritual to the sources of puppet theatre The European context and puppet theatre in the past Forming of the theory of puppet theatre Types of puppets, relation of the actor towards the puppet Tendencies of the contemporary European puppet theatre Origin of the Czech puppet theatre - footloose theatre companies and their repertoire Folk puppeteers and their repertoire Beginnings of the professional companies, puppet theatre and avant-garde Czech puppet theatre and its state in the second half of the 20th century Puppet theatre at the turning of the millenium Course is supplied with recording from the performances.

Learning outcomes
Lectures are focused on the important chapters of the puppet theatre. Aim of this course is theoretical specification of the puppet theatre in the Czech and European context. Attention is directed to the presentation of the history of the Czech puppet theatre, including its contemporary conception and its profile theatre groups.
Knowledge of the historical development and overview in the field of contemporary tendencies in puppet theatre.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the basic theoretical terms of the theatre and the historical development of theatre.

Mark, Written exam

5 titles of the field related literature and staging for analysis, analysis of the seen production, knowledge of the covered information and basic literature.
