The lectures depict the development of aesthetic thinking on art and beauty from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. They show the historical transformation of the most important aesthetic categories (art, fine arts, beauty, the sublime and taste in particular). A special attention will be devoted to the origins of aesthetics as an independent philosophic discipline in the German rationalist philosophy of the 18th century.
The students will get basic knowledge of the history of European aesthetics including main categories.
