Course content
Old Czech theatre from the beginning till the end of the 19th century: The forms and social functions of the medieval theatre, the humanist theatre, changes of baroque theatre. The Enlightenment period and the beginnings of Czech professional theatre. Romanticism and realism, two dominant styles of the Czech theatre in 19th century. German theatre in Czech lands. Moravian and Silesian theatre. Non-professional theatre.

Learning outcomes
The aim is to provide to the students complex overview of the crucial periods of theatre evolution in Czech lands from the beginning till the end of the 20th century.
Student will acquire complex overview of Czech theatre functions and forms in the different periods of the social evolution till the end of the 20th century. Student will be able to connect the acquired knowledge to the general history of theatre.

Mark, Oral exam

The attendance on the lectures is not obligatory. Final exam: knowledge of the content of the lectures and recommended readings.
