1. Auteur theory in film criticism and history; the concept of national cinema 2. French new wave 3. French cinema beyond the new wave - the cinéma du look 4. Italian film after neorealism 5. British Free Cinema and the New Wave 6. Oberhausen Manifesto and New German Cinema 7. East-European Cinema in the Communist Era 8. Soviet Cinema and Poetic Tradition 9. Development of US Cinema and the New Hollywood 10. American Independent Cinema 11. Asian Cinemas

Learning outcomes
The final overview course in the history of world cinema, a follow-up to DSF1 and DSF2. It is focused on the development of world cinema in the second half of the 20th century, specifically from the onset of new waves in Western Europe, Asia and Latin America in the 1950s and 1960s, to the 1990s. Besides European and US film production, the course pays attention to Asian cinema, which gains prominence during this era on the international market. The analysis of themes and style of given movements and filmmakers is accompanied by a detailed look on the industrial, social and cultural background, along with critical assesment of a particular epoch then as well as today.
The course will provide students with the basic knowledge required for their further study of film history.
Prerequisites
The knowledge of the previous periods in the history of cinema. Necessary courses - DSF1K, DSF2K.

Mark, Oral exam

Knowledge of discussed era in film history for the exam.
