Course content
History of the theatre from Baroque till Realism and Naturalism: 1. Baroque theatre (Italian court theatre and opera, French classical drama of the 17th century) 2. Enlightenment and classical theatre (England, France, Burgeois theatre in Germany, Weimar Classicism) 3. Theatre in the period of Romanticism (German and Austrian drama and theatre, situation in France and England, Russian and Polish drama) 4. Theatre in the period of Realism and Naturalism (France, Meiningen theatre, Freie Bühne, Independent theatre and G. B. Shaw, Russian playwrights and K. S. Stanislawski)

Learning outcomes
Aim of the lecture is to provide knowledge about the development of the world theatre from Baroque till Realism and Naturalism (17th - 19th century).
Basic knowledge of the history of the world theatre and ability to view the development of the world theatre in the cultural, social, political and other contexts.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the development od theatre from Antique till Renaissance (see History of the world theatre 1).

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

Knowledges obtained in this lecture will be examined (complete exam). Student must show a competent orientation in history of the world theatre and ability to view development of the theatre in cultural, social, political and other contexts. Student must be able to work with literature. The lecture is not compulsory. Oral exam: thematic knowledges and knowledge of the recommended literature.
